Sisters of St. Francis
Elevated Energy is pleased to lead and manage the design and installation of the largest solar energy project in Sylvania and one of the largest for a non-profit organization in Northwest Ohio. The project includes solar parking lot canopies that will support:
- Ecological Economics through efficient energy investments
- Environmental Education via community engagement
- Community Empowerment through social reinvestment of cost savings
The project was designed to align with the Sisters of St. Francis’ core values of reverence, service, community, and stewardship. Driven by Pope Francis’ Laudato Si’ encyclical, the Solar Initiative aims to demonstrate a lasting commitment to environmental stewardship, sustainability, and social justice.
This landmark initiative is also the first major phase of a broader $5 million solar vision being developed to position the campus as a model of sustainable innovation and ecological justice. Expected to be completed by September 2025, the initial solar installation is more than a renewable energy project—it is a public and permanent expression of the Sisters’ mission.

What started as a lighting project quickly evolved into what will become the largest lighted mural in the world. “We are grateful to the many supporters of this public/private partnership" said Molly Thompson, CEO of Elevated Energy Solutions, the project creator. “It’s thrilling to develop an innovative and collaborative project that shines a bright light on Ohio’s rich cultural history while simultaneously embracing our future. The result will elevate the Toledo region by fostering tourism and economic development, demonstrating a commitment to the environment by repurposing unusable land, supporting local talent and equipment, and providing a unique avenue for educational impact.”
The Glass City River Wall project puts Toledo on the global map—showcasing local innovation, attracting talent, and fueling tourism-driven economic growth. Solar-powered and energy-efficient, the installation transforms underutilized land into a beacon of sustainability, even supporting city infrastructure with surplus energy. It unites communities through creative placemaking, celebrates labor and diversity, and shines a spotlight—literally—on East Toledo.
